What is DMAA?

DMAA (a.k.a. Methylhexanamine, Geranamine, Dimethylamylamine, Forthane) is a synthetic drug originally developed by pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly in the mid-1940’s as a nasal decongestant. It is now marketed mostly as a dietary supplement and exercise stimulant.

What are the uses of DMAA?

DMAA is commonly used by people prior to or during exercise activity to burn fat and enhance energy levels. Its use as a party pill has also been well-documented in New Zealand, with growing usage in the United States and Europe.

What supplements contain DMAA?

It is reported that DMAA is an ingredient in many dietary supplements, including Jack3d, Oxyelite Pro, Hemo Rage Black, Dexaprine, M5 Extreme, Muscle Meds Code Red, Lipo 6 Black, 1 M.R., DynaPep, Anarchy Covalex, Muscle Spike, Noxipro, Isatori PWR, Muscletech Neurocore, Muscletech Hydroxystim, Fahrenheit Nutrition Lean EFX, Muscle Warfare Napalm, SNI Nitric Blast, BIORhythm SSIN juice, Gaspari Nutrtion Spirodex, MethylHex42, Grenade Universal Grenade, M.A.P. (iovate) Arson, or Geranamine.

Is DMAA dangerous?

Research is continuing to emerge on the dangers associated with taking DMAA. However, there have been at least three deaths linked to DMAA usage by young people. These include two U.S. soldiers, ages 22 and 32, who both collapsed during physical training exercises, and one 21 year old New Zealand man.

What are the symptoms or side effects of DMAA?

Each person may react differently to DMAA. However, the following have been cited as medical conditions associated with taking dimethylamylamine: Headache, dehydration, depression, cold sweats, stroke, heart attack, liver and kidney failure, and death.

Is there a class action lawsuit against the makers of DMAA?
